Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has outlined a raft of cost-cutting measures he would implement in the first 100 days if elected President in the 2027 General Election, pledging to scrap several taxes and levies introduced during President William Ruto's administration.

Speaking during the unveiling of the Linda Mwananchi Movement's national headquarters in Nairobi, Sifuna said his administration would prioritise easing the financial burden on Kenyans by removing taxes on essential services and eliminating 'budgeted corruption.'

He proposed cutting Ksh.500 million from the national budget and redirecting the funds to benefit ordinary Kenyans.

"Tunataka kukata Ksh.500 million kutoka kwa bajeti ya serikali turudishie wakenya hio pesa, tutoe ushuru ya mafuta, stima na housing levy kwa sababu Wakenya wanaumia," he stated.

Sifuna also criticised government spending on food and entertainment, questioning how billions of shillings could be spent on such items while the health sector continued to face dire challenges following a 45-day nurses' strike.

"Tunataka tukiingia siku mia moja za kwanza, tukate wastage na sherehe ambao watu wanapiga State House," he noted.

"Inawezekanaje manurse wanagoma siku 45 wakiitisha Ksh.1.8 billion na wewe chai na mandazi umekula Ksh.12 billion? Na unatuambia wewe ni kiongozi wa taifa."

The Senator further said the Linda Mwananchi Movement would prioritise adherence to the Constitution, arguing that respect for the rule of law was essential to preventing anarchy.

He maintained that anyone seeking the presidency must commit to upholding the Constitution before assuming office.

"Tuliambia Kasongo ata ushinde na landslide huwezi kuingia katika afisi ya rais kabla hujakula kiapo katika katiba yetu kwamba you'll obey, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution. Kama huwezi sema hayo mambo manne, huwezi kuwa rais," he remarked.

Sifuna also called for a government that respects human rights and equality, questioning the treatment of citizens whose rights are violated.

"Tunataka serikali ambayo itaheshimu haki za kibinadamu na usawa. Who told you that you can enjoy Article 3 rights when you are on the ground? Who has told you William Ruto?"

During the event, Sifuna outlined a proposed leadership structure for the party, with Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi nominated to serve as party chairperson, deputised by former Makadara MP Reuben Ndolo.

Suba South MP Caroli Omondi has been proposed for the position of Secretary General, while Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka is set to serve as treasurer.

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya will head the presidential campaign, deputised by Faith Odhiambo.

Sifuna announced that the movement would hold a National Delegates Convention on November 13, 2026, to ratify the proposed party structures.

The convention will also set the stage for the establishment of grassroots offices across the country, with the movement targeting to have them operational before the end of November.
