The Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Nyeri branch has threatened to withdraw from the Social Health Authority medical cover arrangement if the government fails to scrap outpatient capping.

The union says the authority has capped outpatient services at Ksh.1,200 per visit, arguing that the amount only caters for consultation fees and effectively strips teachers of meaningful insurance for routine healthcare needs.

KUPPET officials also raised concerns over administrative inefficiencies, citing delays in hospital admissions and cases where patients are turned away at major private hospitals due to incomplete system integration.

The union is now warning of a possible strike or boycott if the medical cover is not restored to its previous standards.
