Three people have perished in a grisly accident at Tangu area near Salama Town on Mombasa road.

Makueni police boss Joseph Ole Napeiyan says the accident occurred at around 7:30 in the morning.

A Nissan X trail that was heading towards the Nairobi direction from Mombasa collided head-on with a trailer as it attempted to overtake a fleet of cars.

All the passengers in the Nissan Xtrail; two men and woman died on the spot.

The driver of the trailer reportedly escaped after the accident.
