The African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) team, led by Chairperson Olive Mugenda, has held talks with Seychelles President Patrick Herminie during a courtesy call at State House in Seychelles.

The APRM delegation is in Seychelles to assess the country's education system following a request by the government through Education Minister David Pierre.

The mission aims to evaluate how the education sector is performing, identify gaps, and suggest ways to improve outcomes.

During the meeting, President Herminie welcomed the team and reaffirmed the government's commitment to strengthening education through partnerships.

He stressed the need for evidence-based decisions to ensure the system meets the country’s changing needs.

The assessment, which began this week, includes consultations with government officials, teachers, and community representatives. The team is also holding discussions with key education stakeholders to gather views on progress and challenges.

Early findings show Seychelles has strong access to education, with enrollment rates at about 98 per cent, among the highest in Africa.

However, concerns remain about student transition rates, especially from secondary school to A-Level studies and university.

During the mission, the APRM team will compare its findings with best practices from over 40 countries before making recommendations aligned with national priorities.

A final report will be submitted to the Seychelles government for review before being presented to President Herminie. The recommendations are expected to guide future education reforms.

Seychelles is also expected to share its success in expanding access to education with other African countries through the APRM platform.
