A post-mortem examination on the body of a man allegedly
stabbed by a taxi driver following a roadside confrontation has confirmed that
he died from multiple stab wounds.
The findings come as newly obtained CCTV footage sheds light
on the fatal incident, capturing the prime suspect—who has since been
arrested—allegedly stabbing the deceased, Kennedy Ng'eno, and his friend
several times.
The attack reportedly occurred moments after the two vehicles
were involved in a traffic accident on Saturday night in Nairobi.
The CCTV footage captures Mombasa Road near Nyayo Stadium on
Saturday at 4:36 a.m. Three vehicles suddenly come to a halt. A man steps out
of his car and walks straight towards the white vehicle.
What begins as an argument over a minor accident erupts into
violence without warning.
Two minutes later, the same man is seen taking photos. CCTV
captures the struggle as others try to snatch his phone. A confrontation
explodes between the two sides.
In a critical moment, one man is stabbed with a sharp object.
The suspect then turns on the second man—identified as Kennedy Ng'eno—and
launches a ferocious attack.
Kennedy tries to flee, but the suspect chases him down and
continues stabbing him with an object police have still not identified.
Nearly nine minutes after he falls to the ground, his friends
rush him into the white car and speed off to hospital. But he is already dead.
Four days later, the prime suspect is arrested and held at
Industrial Area Police Station.
"We had to come here today to confirm that indeed my
client did report the incident and he was not at large, as it has been reported
that my client stabbed and ran away,” the suspect’s lawyer, Yashin Mutende,
said.
"This incident happened on the 1st of August, and we've
been looking for this guy. Now he has been arrested. He'll be taken to court
tomorrow for custodial orders so that we finish our investigations,” Makadara
DCIO Hassan Ahmed Abdullahi added.
Makadara OCPD Judith Nyongesa on her part, said, “And I
promised that within the week I shall have gotten the suspect. Today the
suspect has been found, and the DCI are processing him."
The vehicle linked to the attack is now at the DCI Makadara
offices. The post-mortem confirms the deceased was stabbed multiple times.
"After the autopsy, the doctor gave us the report that
showed that Ken's life was ended by a stab to his heart, which penetrated his
heart. There were around five stab wounds and many more on his hand,” said family
representative Malone Victor.
The victim's family lawyer Gideon Kipyegon added: “We have
enough witnesses to prove that this case was a case of stabbing. It was a case
of wrongful provocation. It was a case of someone who had ill motive. All the
witnesses who were present saw the knife. It's only that the knife went with
the perpetrator, and we hope that during the interrogation in court he will be
able to produce the murder weapon."
