The Kenya
Volleyball Federation has released the fixtures and venues for the 2025–2026
National League quarterfinal playoff clashes, introducing a new format and a
change of system to this year’s championship. In a departure from previous
seasons where the top four teams advanced directly to a round-robin final, this
season introduces a thrilling top-eight knockout style.
Teams will clash
in a best-of-three quarterfinal series, meaning a club must secure two
victories to book its ticket to the semifinals. The three-day volleyball
extravaganza is scheduled to run from Friday, June 26 to Sunday, June 28, 2026,
in Mombasa. To accommodate the packed schedule, KVF has split the venues: the
men’s battles will take over the Makande Gymnasium, while the women’s
tournament will be staged at the Aga Khan Academy.
The new playoff
structure has thrown a massive curveball into the men’s draw. Defending
champions General Service Unit (GSU), who lifted the title last season after
defeating Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) at Kasarani, find themselves in low
seeding after a turbulent regular season. This has set up an explosive, finals-caliber
blockbuster right in the opening round, pitting Prisons Kenya against GSU.
Meanwhile,
regular-season leaders KPA, who finished at the top of the standings, will seek
to capitalize on their dominance when they launch their title hunt against KAPU.
Equity Bank, who secured a historic bronze medal finish last season, enter the
bracket as the fourth seed and are scheduled to battle the formidable Kenya
Defence Forces (KDF). The final men's quarterfinal fixture features a rising
Chema Volleyball Team taking on the Trailblazers.
On the other
hand, women’s reigning champions Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) enter the
tournament with a target to achieve. After dismantling DCI Queens to claim the
national crown last season, Pipeline showed no signs of a championship
hangover, steamrolling through the 2025/2026 regular season to finish as the
undisputed number one ranked team.
Pipeline will
serve off their title defense against Nairobi Prisons, but the road back to the
podium looks steeper than ever. The rise of Prisons Kenya who are ranked
position two and KCB ranked number 3,—who took home the bronze medal last
season—has completely reshuffled the power dynamic. KCB is locked into a
heavyweight quarterfinal clash against KDF, while last season's finalists, DCI,
face a tricky opening assignment against Postbank.
Beyond the court
action, KVF has issued a stern reminder to all participating clubs regarding
administrative compliance. In accordance with federation regulations, every
team must be accompanied by a practicing, non-playing referee who holds a
minimum of a National Level One Certificate. Failure to comply will attract
strict federation sanctions.
According to the
official KVF schedule detailed, the first two days will feature back-to-back
action to determine the primary legs, while Sunday is strictly reserved for
tie-breakers if a series is tied 1-1.
