The Pan African Kisima Music & Film Awards 2020 on Friday received a heavy boost after signing a Ksh.5 million partnership with the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB).

The partnership, according to a statement sent to newsrooms, includes Ksh.1 million to a winner in one of the film categories that embraces KFCB’s mandate of promoting clean content.

KFCB Chief Executive Officer Dr Ezekiel Mutua, during the ceremony, said the remaining amount will be used for Kisima’s media and logistical support.

Dr Mutua said the future of business in the music and film industry post-COVID-19 lies in collaboration and partnerships, adding that the film business has the potential to create jobs and wealth for artistes.

“The theme of the annual Kisima Pan African Music and Film Awards re-awakening the soul, spirit and vibrancy of the African music and film industry is not only apt but refreshing and timely,” he said.

“It’s time for Africa to tell her story and to awaken her progressive cultural traits and indefatigable spirit.”

Dr Mutua said KFCB’s partnership with Kisima was anchored on its commitment to create facilitative environment where young creatives can be supported to nurture and showcase their talents in film and music for job opportunities and empowerment.

Kisima Awards 2020 Chairman Dr Fred Simiyu, on his part, challenged corporates to invest in artistes as well as the creative industry.

He thanked KFCB for making available Nairobi Film Centre to artistes from the African continent who will be participating in this year’s Kisima Awards to showcase their talent.

Dr. Simiyu also asked Kenyan creatives to take advantage of the Centre to exhibit their talent.
