The late Nderitu’s children are locked in a standoff with Florence Ouma, the widow of their brother, over ownership of the property.
For over two decades, the family has been engaged in a protracted succession battle that has repeatedly played out in court, pitting his children against the widow of his brother, Florence Ouma.
The confrontation escalated when Florence clashed with her in-laws over the enforcement of a court order to subdivide the land.
Youth were brought in with tools and began demolishing structures to create access to the disputed property.
Moments later, Florence, who is said to have lived on the property, rushed in to stop the demolition as police officers watched on to ensure the court order was executed.
“I have a half in the premise that ile upande ingine nilipatiwa bure, they’re saying I was gifted ndio nisibenefit, that’s why we are in court. I need a third of the other part,” said Florence Ouma, widow of John Nderitu’s brother.
“This is a succession matter that has been going on for 20 years. We have gone through several litigation many many years, judges have decided to arbitrate and finally we have a confirmed grant. If she has a stay well then we can stop, but not about feelings, it’s not about how people feel about the business so we’re going to execute,” said John Nderito, son of Charles Nderitu.
Meanwhile, the land was fenced off under tight police watch as surveyors marked boundaries for subdivision.
“He is not the administrator to enforce that court order,” said Florence Ouma.
“But she has given me express authority in writing this order which the police already verified,” said John Nderito.
A phone call to Angela Nderitu, a sister to John Nderito, confirmed awareness of the enforcement exercise.
“Is it true? Yes, that’s very true. However, my younger brother is there so there is no problem. She should proceed, there’s no problem,” she said.
However, by midnight, Florence reportedly returned with hired youths who dismantled the earlier work and camped overnight to guard the land.
The youths vowed to confront anyone attempting to access the disputed property.
John Nderito has since filed a fresh case against Florence for contempt of court, even as her appeal in the succession dispute is scheduled for hearing on June 2, 2026.
