Kenya U20 captain Amos Wanjala has taken a major step in his blossoming career after completing a move to Spanish La Liga outfit  La Liga for a 2-year contract, and he will wear jersey No. 17.

The 19-year-old defender, who hails from Makande in Mombasa, has successfully undergone his medical and was officially unveiled today before the game against Barbastro in the Segunda RFEF - Group 3 league.

According to the Spanish club, Wanjala will initially be integrated into Valencia’s Under-19 setup, VCF Mestalla, as he begins his journey within the club’s highly regarded academy system, with the long-term aim of earning promotion to the senior team.

Kenyan football agent David Kenga, who represents the player, confirmed the transfer and described it as the reward for months of tireless effort.

“It’s been a long wait, but eventually our boy Amos Wanjala has finalised his deal with Valencia. This is a very big step in his career. Our team worked day and night to ensure the deal went through so that he can continue progressing,” said Kenga.

“This is a big moment for Kenya, for Amos, his family and for us as his representatives. We pray that, God willing, we will soon see him playing in La Liga with the first team.”

The former St Anthony’s Boys High School defender had previously been linked with a move to Spanish Segunda División side UD Almería in September 2025, with talks centring on a potential January 2026 switch. However, Valencia’s interest ultimately materialised into a permanent academy move.

The Kenya U20 skipper began his European journey at Nàstic Academy, where his performances quickly caught the eye. Within six months, he earned a professional contract with Athletic Club Torrellano CF. He later spent time training with Elche CF in 2025, although contractual issues prevented a permanent transfer.

Wanjala’s move adds to a growing list of Kenyan youngsters breaking into European football. He joins compatriots such as Kibet at Celta Vigo, Alvin Kasavuli at Nàstic Academy, and Luis Ingavi, a Montverde Academy graduate currently playing semi-professionally in Michigan as he prepares for university football.

More than just a personal triumph, Amos Wanjala’s transfer to Valencia CF stands as a strong statement of Kenya’s rising football talent on the global stage.
