President William Ruto has announced that the government will reduce the price of maize seeds by 50% as from September 2026. This, Ruto said, would reduce a bag of maize seeds from its current market price of Ksh.300 to Ksh.150.

Speaking during a church service at AIC Makutano in Taita Taveta County, the Head of State also said the government will ensure farmers use the coming short rains to plant more maize following crop failure last season due to rain failure.

Ruto also says his government has decided to subsidize ferlrtilizer by Ksh.500 per bag. A bag that was retailing at Ksh.2500, will now sell at Ksh.2000.

"We have decided as the government to reduce the price of maize Seeds, and we have also injected public funds to subsidize ferlrtilizer. So I call upon all farmers across the country to use the expected short rains to grow more food and stabilize Kenya's food security," said Ruto.

Ruto also announced that Ksh.18 billion in school capitation has already been disbursed to schools as they prepare to reopen next Monday.

The President also warned his political opponents for spreading propaganda that the money to schools hasn't been disbursed.

The Head of State also announced that is a law is passed by parliament, the new University and TVET funding model will ensure that each qualified student selects their preferred courses.

"The government will pay for each course a learner qualifies to pursue without necessarily dropping the course because parents and guardians are unable to sponsor the student," added Ruto.

The government, he said, has already hired 100 thousand teachers in the last four years, and by next year, more than 20 thousand new teachers will be hired to fill the gap of teachers students ratio.
