Nairobi Senator and Linda Mwananchi leader Edwin Sifuna has seemingly dismissed allegations that former President Uhuru Kenyatta is bankrolling the opposition against Preaident William Ruto's administration.

Sharing a snippet from one of the interview President William Ruto had with Nation newspaper, Sifuna laughed off his response when asked for evidence that Uhuru is supporting the opposition.

"Yule jamaa amebeba akili yote ya Kenya aliulizwa swali mboga sana, atoe evidence Uhuru ndio sponsor ya upinzani akasema hata yeye alisoma kwa gazeti…na anadai sisi ndio mafala," Sifuna said.

Ruto and his allies have in several occasions accused Uhuru of bankrolling the opposition, especially Sifuna and Jubilee Presidential candidate Fred Matiang'i, the mount a challenge for the presidency in next year's general election.

Pressed to prove the claims during the interview, Ruto instead directed the reporter to a previous article by the same newspaper that said Uhuru had convened a super alliance to challenge Kenya Kwanza.

"You work for the Nation, right? Can you check the Sunday Nation headline of August 2. What was the headline? It says 'Uhuru super coalition against Ruto'. You answered yourselves. Despite everything he did I won the elections," Ruto responded.

Uhuru is yet to respond to the claims by Ruto and his allies.

This is the latest response from Sifuna amid heightened political activities as the 2027 election draws closer.

Sifuna has emerged as a serious challenger against Ruto, with his Linda Mwananchi outfit gaining momentum as part of the larger opposition team challenging Ruto presidency.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, Matiang'i, former Minister Martha Karua, among others have indicated they will be going for the country's top seat.

However, the United opposition needs to put their house together and produce a formidable candidate to face Ruto next year.

Sifuna's team believes he is the right candidate.
