President William Ruto has said Kenya must move away from tribal politics and discrimination, insisting that development should reach all parts of the country.

Speaking while attending the ABC Annual National Women Congress at Scott Theological University in Machakos, Ruto said the broad-based government will ensure that development reaches all regions of the country.

Ruto was accompanied by ABC Archbishop Timothy Ndambuki, Machakos Town MP Caleb Mule, Mwala MP Vincent Musyoka, Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse and former State House Chief of Staff Nzioka Waita, among other leaders.

The President said his administration had deliberately embraced a broad-based government to promote national unity and ensure equitable development across the country.

“I said that the old style of politics where certain regions faced discrimination would come to an end, and that development would reach every area, because Kenya is one nation,” Ruto said.

He said the government would not allow politics based on tribalism and discrimination to take root.

“We do not want politics based on tribalism and discrimination,” he said.

Ruto also defended the Social Health Authority (SHA), dismissing claims that the health insurance scheme was not working as propaganda.

He said critics of SHA did not understand how the system operates because they had neither visited hospitals nor experienced it as patients.

“SHA was introduced to put an end to the practice of Kenyans having to sell their assets to afford medical treatment,” he said.
