Iran has executed another suspect sentenced to death for killing a member of the security forces during the wave of protests that began in 2022, the judiciary's official media outlet reported on Saturday.

The Mizan agency said the sentence for "for Aref Khoshkar, the perpetrator of the martyrdom of security force Salman Amir-Ahmadi during the Mahsa Amini protests, was carried out after going through legal procedures, approval by the Supreme Court, and at the request of the deceased's parents".

The protests had been sparked by the death of Amini while in custody for allegedly breaching the Islamic republic's dress code for women.

Local media reports identified Amir-Ahmadi as a member of the Basij, a paramilitary force affiliated with the Revolutionary Guards.

The number of executions in Iran has surged since the start of the Middle East war, launched by the United States and Israel on February 28 with a wave of air and missile strikes.

Many were over cases linked to previous rounds of anti-government protests.

In 2025, the authorities executed at least 1,639 people, the most for any year since 1989, according to the NGOs Iran Human Rights and Together Against the Death Penalty (ECPM).

According to Amnesty International, Iran conducts the second most executions of any country, after China.
