The move signals the county's push to strengthen its appeal as a destination for presidential visits while also addressing longstanding calls from miraa traders for improved transport infrastructure to support the export of the cash crop.
The airstrip is among three planned developments within the forest alongside the State Lodge and a golf course, projects that have attracted sharp criticism from conservationists and local residents who argue they threaten one of the region's key environmental assets.
In a separate engagement on the same day, the governor held talks with the Meru County Investment Development Corporation and the Hewani Energy team to discuss ongoing community initiatives arising from development projects in the region.
Discussions focused on strengthening Corporate Social Responsibility programmes aimed at improving social welfare and livelihoods within the project area.
M'Ethingia witnessed the delivery and flagging off of a food donation destined for neighbouring schools in Athwana Ward, noting that the contribution reflects a strong commitment to supporting education, promoting food security and uplifting communities.
"When development partners invest in the wellbeing of our people, the impact extends far beyond the project itself," the governor said.
"I commend Hewani Energy and all stakeholders involved for embracing community-centred development. We welcome more partnerships that create opportunities and deliver lasting benefits to our people."
