Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have arrested an employee of the State Department for Immigration, Border Control and Citizen Services over allegations of soliciting a bribe to facilitate the processing of a Kenyan passport.

According to the commission, the suspect, Moses Karima Chandugu, was arrested following a complaint lodged at the commission’s Lower Coast Regional Office in Mombasa.

Upon conducting preliminary investigations, EACC established that the suspect agreed to receive a Ksh.12,000 bribe to expedite the process of acquiring a Kenyan passport.

Chandugu was later arrested and processed at Central Police Station, Mombasa, before being arraigned in court, where he was released on a Ksh.20,000 cash bail pending completion of investigations.

"EACC reiterates its commitment to tackling bribery at service delivery points and enhancing the quality of public services for all citizens," the anti-graft agency said in a statement.
