Daniel Simiu Ebenyo wrapped up his season with an impressive marathon debut at the 2024 Chicago Marathon, where he placed fifth with a time of 2:06:04.

The world 10,000m silver medalist showed his resilience  and perhaps a  statement of intent, signaling that he is just beginning his marathon journey and will be a formidable force in future races.

Looking ahead to the Paris 2024 Olympics, Ebenyo - ranked World No. 1 in the 10,000m - was notably absent from the Games due to a selection oversight by Athletics Kenya.

In an interview with Citizen Digital, Ebenyo shared his resilience:

“My determination is bigger than any obstacle that comes my way. I've already seen how much I can overcome,” Ebenyo said.

Reflecting on his marathon debut, Ebenyo added:

“It was a great experience. I’m happy to have been selected to debut at the Chicago Marathon, which is one of the six World Marathon Majors. It’s an honor, and I’m looking forward to achieving even better results in the future.”

As the 2025 season approaches, Ebenyo faces a packed calendar with major events such as the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, the Kip Keino Classic and  the World Indoor Championships in Nanjing.

When asked if he would return to track events, Ebenyo remained non-committal.

“As for the track, I’m not sure yet. Time will tell.”

At 29, Ebenyo has already established himself as one of Kenya’s top athletes.

In addition to his world 10,000m silver medal, he is the reigning Commonwealth Games 10,000m silver medalist, a three-time Kenyan national champion in the 5,000m, and a top-10 finisher at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Ebenyo has also excelled in road races, with multiple half-marathon victories. His personal best of 59:14 came at the World Athletics Running Championships, where he finished second. Most recently, he won the 2024 Berlin Half Marathon, clocking 59:30.

Ebenyo’s future looks bright, and while his next move remains uncertain, one thing is clear - he’s only just getting started.
