An 11-year-old boy committed suicide on Thursday after his request to be transferred to a different school failed.

Sources claim that the boy from Ongata Rongai wanted a transfer from the public school he was in to a private one. Efforts by the mother to explain to him that she didn’t have the finances lead the boy to commit suicide.

It is claimed that after the mother left for the shop, the first born in a family of three, took a rope and hanged himself in the living room. The mother returned to find the lifeless body hanging from the ceiling.

“Investigations are on going to determine the reason the boy took his own life. According to the mother, there was no quarrel between them,” said Silas Rigera, OCPD Ongata Rongai.

It is also unclear why the boy was at home instead of being in school considering schools have reopened.
