Bhang growers flee as police raid Ksh.60M plantation in Mwingi

The plantation was discovered in Kakongo Village, Kairungu Location, Kiomo Kyethani Ward, following a security operation based on intelligence received by the authorities.

Police said the bhang had been planted among assorted food crops in an apparent attempt to conceal it. Officers from the National Police Service (NPS) and National Government Administration Officers (NGAO), assisted by members of the public, uprooted the crop and transported it to Mwingi Police Station, where it was weighed at 2,000 kilogrammes.

Authorities also recovered seven solar panels, six jembes, four pangas, two weighing scales, two fork jembes, two hacksaws, a solar control unit, assorted solar accessories, five petrol-operated water-pump generators, and 30 kilogrammes of CAN fertiliser, among other tools believed to have been used in cultivating the plantation.

The cultivators fled before the operation could apprehend them. Investigations are ongoing, with officers pursuing leads to track down the masterminds behind the narcotics network.
