25-year-old man who confessed to killing girlfriend detained for 14 days

25-year-old murder suspect Brian Waweru will be in police custody for the next 14 days to allow police conclude investigations into the murder of his girlfriend Evelyne Wanjiru.

Brian confessed to killing his 24-year-old girlfriend on the night of January 1 in Ndenderu, Kiambu County, after a heated argument.

Augustine Mutembei, DCI, Kiambu, said: “Brian fatally assaulted Wanjiru with a sharp object. Immediately after the assault, Brian covered the body with a blanket and cushions and left the house to an unknown place.”

Nelly Kimacia, who is Brian's aunt, was the first to discover the remains of Wanjiru on Tuesday, in a single room rented at Ndenderu.

“Saa ile nilifungua tu mlango hivi niliona miguu nikashtuka...ata hiyo harufu niliskia tu nikifunga…nilishindwa kuingia,” said Kimacia.

Brian was arrested on Thursday afternoon, he confessed to the murder and led officers to the house where he had hidden the weapon of murder.

“Our officers managed to arrest Brian in his hideout within Ndenderu area and upon interrogations, he confessed to committing the heinous crime,” added Mutembei.

Brian is reported to have had a dispute with Wanjiru on many occasions, the two were not in talking terms since October last year when he allegedly assaulted the deceased.

He was then arrested but later released on cash bail. He is reported to have tricked her to join him during the Christmas and New Year period before committing the crime.

The body of the deceased was taken to the Kihara level four hospital on Tuesday night.
