Farmhand beaten to death over mobile phone in Trans Nzoia

The suspect, Samuel Kemboi, was cornered and apprehended following a chase involving detectives, officers from Kiungani Police Station, and members of the public.

Detectives in Kiminini Sub-County, Trans Nzoia County, have arrested a 21-year-old man suspected of fatally assaulting a farm worker in Tawai Village, Wamuini sub-location.

The suspect, Samuel Kemboi, was cornered and apprehended following a chase involving detectives, officers from Kiungani Police Station, and members of the public.

According to a report lodged at Kiungani Police Station, the victim, 22-year-old Stephen Ndungu, had been engaged as a farmhand just a day before the incident.

Police say a dispute broke out between Ndungu and Kemboi over a mobile phone on the afternoon of August 24, 2026.

The disagreement escalated into a physical altercation, during which Kemboi allegedly struck the victim repeatedly. Ndungu collapsed during the assault and died at the scene.

Responding officers documented visible injuries on the deceased's head, face, and stomach.

Kemboi remains in police custody as Kiminini detectives complete investigations ahead of his arraignment.

The body of the deceased has been moved to Kiminini Cottage Mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.
