Twitter's new CEO Elon Musk has hinted at deleting accounts that have remained inactive for a period of over 1 year.

Musk, who has since identified himself as 'Chief Twit' on his Twitter bio, was replying to a request from a user who suggested that dormant accounts which have run a streak of 1 year should be given a 30-day notice to log in or else be deleted.

Musk in concurrence said "Definitely".

This lies on the backdrop of Musk making notable changes in the bird app since taking over last week, with one of the recent reforms being users with verified accounts paying a monthly Ksh.2,428 ($20) fee to keep their blue tick badge.

The feature is to be part of Twitter Blue. It was launched in June last year as the platform's first subscription service, which offers "exclusive access to premium features" on a monthly subscription basis including an option to edit tweets.

The Tesla CEO announced an intention to buy the social media platform  in April 2022, kicking of months of back and forth commentary and legal threats.

The matter did not go to trial and Musk eventually completed the purchase, paying $US44 billion ($64 billion) for the company.
