Homicide detectives
probing the murder of Gospel musician Rachel Wandeto have been granted 10 days to hold a suspect linked to the murder for more days to complete
investigations.
The suspect, a taxi
driver identified as Josiah Njeru Njiri, was arrested in Ruai, Nairobi.
Police say Njiri was
the last person in communication with the deceased. Investigators placed him
within the musician's residential area moments before she was attacked by
assailants and doused with petrol.
Detectives believe
the suspect holds crucial information that will lead to a breakthrough, even as
they hunt for more accomplices.
Makadara Law Courts Magistrate James Juma Mayiah ordered the suspect to be detained at the Kilimani Police Station.
Meanwhile, the family of Wandeto continues to call for justice following her
death after an attack in Mwiki, Kasarani Sub-County.
Wandeto sustained
severe burn injuries after being attacked and set on fire by unknown
individuals. She later died while receiving treatment at Kenyatta National
Hospital, where doctors said she had suffered burns covering 75 per cent of her
body.
The singer had drawn public attention after tattooing an image of President William Ruto on her body and openly supporting the government’s “two-term” political campaign.
