Peerless John Kitaka wins Machakos leg of Bayer Golf Series

Home player, John Kitaka, shot an impressive round of 47 points to emerge the overall winner of the Machakos Golf Club leg of the Bayer East Africa golf series that was held at the weekend.
Playing off
handicap 19, John’s score was six points better than that of his nearest
challenger, Patrick Marang’u whose efforts saw him claim the top spot in the
men’s category with 41 points.
Clinching the
runner-up spot in the category was Joe Mboya, playing off handicap 17, who shot
a round of 39 points. Completely the podium places in the category was Victor
Mutwii, playing off handicap 11, with 38 points on the scorecard.
Amongst the lady
golfers, Angelina Mutuku, playing off handicap 32, emerged the winner with 37
points; one ahead of her nearest challenger, Mwongeli Nzioka – playing off
handicap 10, who carded a round of 36 points. Taking third spot in the lady’s
category was Florence Riungu, who shot a round of 35 points and playing off
handicap 24.
Amongst the
guests was Isaac Kamau, from Vetlab Sports Club, playing off handicap
22, who emerged the top guest at the event after carding a round of 39 points;
two better than Timothy Rintari, playing off handicap 26, who managed 37 points
to clinch runner-up spot in the category.
In the
subsidiaries, Mathew Mutambu, playing off handicap 53, was the men’s winner
with 41 points, whilst Purity Kioko was crowned the lady winner with 40 points.
John Kinyua and Anthony Mwirigi – playing off handicaps 32 and 31 – emerged
first and second nine winners with 21 and 22 points respectively.
In the longest
drive challenge, Terra Saidimu and Nancy Kariuki, emerged victors in the men’s
and ladies’ categories respectively; whilst Vincent Musalia won the
nearest-to-the-pin award at the event.
The series moves
to the Nandi Bears club in June this year.
