The Ngong Law Courts in Kajiado released 45 suspects on bond after they were charged with blocking President William Ruto’s convoy and unlawful assembly.

The suspects appeared before Ngong Chief Magistrate Ariba Kutwa on Monday. Five women admitted to the charges, while 40 men denied involvement.

Each suspect was released on a bond of Ksh.100,000 or an alternative cash bail of the same amount.

Reports indicate the suspects were transported by bus and matatus to Nkarusa, Kajiado West, on Sunday. Upon arrival, they blocked the road and obstructed President Ruto’s convoy as he was leaving after attending a fundraiser at the SDA Church in Nkarusa.

The suspects were caught singing “Wantam” songs before police intervened and dispersed them. They were later arrested while boarding the vehicles to leave.

Police say they are also investigating a politician from Kajiado North who allegedly funded the 45 suspects and instructed them to enter the meeting attended by the President to cause disruption by singing the “Wantam” song. Security officers prevented the group from entering the meeting.

The case for the 5 women who admitted to the charges will be mentioned again on June 18, 2026. For the 40 men who denied the charges, the case will be mentioned after 14 days as police continue with investigations.

President William Ruto was in Kajiado West on Sunday to lead a fundraiser for the construction of the headquarters of the SDA Church.
