Lawyer Angela Mulwa re-arrested, to face murder charge alongside mother, brother

According to a charge sheet seen by Citizen Digital, Mulwa, Rose Mbithe Mulwa, alias Rose Mbithe Ndetei, and Chris Mulwa are accused of murdering Dr Mutiso on July 29, 2026, at about 9:30am along Mawensi Road in Kilimani, Nairobi County.

The prosecution alleges that the three acted jointly with other persons who have not yet been brought before the court.

Mulwa had previously been held by police as detectives continued investigating Dr Mutiso's death. The State had sought additional time to detain her, arguing that investigations were still ongoing and that the file had been forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions for a decision on whether to charge her.

Earlier on Monday, however, the court dismissed the DPP's application seeking to have Mulwa detained for a further period.

Her lawyer, Danstan Omar, opposed the application, raising jurisdictional concerns.

Mulwa is now expected to be formally arraigned alongside the other suspects on Tuesday, when the prosecution is expected to present the murder charge before the court.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has been investigating the circumstances surrounding Dr Mutiso's death.
