Wetangula: Kenya’s democracy has come of age, we should not derail progress

The speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetangula has termed Madaraka Day celebrations as an important occasion to highlight the high strides Kenya has made in nurturing its democracy.

Marking 60 years since Kenya attained self-rule, Wetangula urged politicians to desist from unnecessary politics and focus on the trajectory of building and developing the country.

“At 60 we certainly have come of age since independence we have had regular elections at the level of democracy with challenges of course but we have managed to successfully have now the 5th president that is a feather in our democratic cup that we should be proud of,” he said during the Madaraka Day fete at Moi Stadium in Embu. 

Wetangula urged politicians to desist from unnecessary politics and focus in the trajectory of building and developing the country. That they should not allow the efforts of our fore fathers go in vain by unnecessary politics.

He fostered for social transformation in the country focusing on reducing the levels of poverty and provision of clean water.

“It’s time to take a new trajectory and focus on how to uplift the lives of our people this is what this day (Madaraka) should signify,” he said. 

“Our fore fathers fought for independence they brought independence we should not betray them by derailing the course for which they fought.”
