According to a media statement issued on Monday, the visit scheduled for Tuesday highlights Kenya and Egypt's long-standing economic, diplomatic, and political relationship.
The Cairo visit follows the March 2024 Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) meeting, at which H.E. Dr. Mudavadi and Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry signed four memorandums of understanding (MOUs) in trade, agriculture, tourism, energy, and infrastructure development.
Building on this foundation, both countries have signed eight additional memorandums of understanding (MOUs) covering key areas such as political consultations, diplomatic training, investment facilitation, port cooperation, youth engagement, higher education, gender equality, and women’s empowerment.
Egypt, Kenya's second-largest tea importer after Pakistan, has an important role in the bilateral trade relationship.
Kenya's exports to Egypt average USD 176.04 million, while imports from Egypt total USD 340.10 million.
This visit will expand trade and investment opportunities by addressing key sectors critical to both countries' development.
CS Mudavadi will also use this opportunity to rally Egyptian support for Raila Odinga's candidature for African Union Commission (AUC) Chairperson in February.
