Gilgil sub-county police commander Winstone Mwakio confirmed that the incident occurred after a saloon car carrying 6 occupants collided head-on with a bus belonging to Easy Coach company.
The bus was heading towards Nakuru, while the private vehicle was travelling towards Nairobi.
The remains have been moved to PNN Funeral Home, while one person who sustained serious injuries is being treated at Nakuru Level 5 Hospital.
Preliminary reports indicate that the bus was seen carelessly overtaking other vehicles on the busy road.
Occupants of the said vehicle included siblings, who were
travelling from Kisumu a week after burying their mother.
According to a family member, James Wegesa, his wife and
brother were returning to the city after burying their mother. His wife was
with their 3-year-old child, and his brother-in-law with a child and wife too.
One other relative was with them.
“I just had a small family my wife and daughter. I am left
alone. I am a driver by profession; drivers tend to be careless .... My family
was climbing uphill, then the bus was going down on the climbing lane. Someone
who was not careful has done this to me,” Wegesa told Citizen Digital in
Nakuru.
Wegesa recalled calling his wife, only for the phone to be
picked by a police officer asking him to visit the station.
