Lamu Governor Issa Timamy has taken over the leadership of the Amani National Congress (ANC) party.

This follows the resignation of Musalia Mudavadi who stepped down from the position to concentrate on his cabinet docket as the Principal Cabinet Secretary.

Speaking during the handover ceremony on Tuesday, ANC party officials pledged to strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The party’s Secretary General, Simon Gikuru exuded confidence that come 2027, the party would be more successful as compared to 2022.

He said: “The political space and political market will be more friendly and fertile for ANC to thrive.”

ANC Chairperson Kelvin Lunani added: “Amani National Congress is there to stay, it will never fall, so all parties expect us to be competitive In the political world going forward.”

The leadership further noted that plans were underway to deliberate on the way forward by assessing the shortcomings in the August polls.

“We will soon be meeting all the party’s leadership and go for a retreat where we shall analyse what happened, what went wrong, and why we performed poorly,” Timamy stated.
