Two journalists assaulted amid Linda Mwananchi rally in Homa Bay

Two journalists have been injured and businesses closed in Homa Bay town since morning as tensions rise ahead of Linda Mwananchi rally in the region.
AFP journalists Fred Ooko and his colleague Brian Ongoro were attacked and assaulted by goons who were armed with crude weapons while covering the situation in Homa Bay town.
During the attack, their press cards, driving licences, cameras and other personal belongings were taken away by the armed goons.
The journalists were dragged along the road and beaten with clubs before a boda boda rider intervened and helped them.
The two journalists reported the matter at Homa Bay police station.
Homa Bay town has largely been brought to a standstill, with armed groups blocking several roads leading to town.
Business and transport services have been paralyzed in Homa Bay Town forcing motorists to use other alternative routes.
Several churches remained closed amid the tension ahead of the Linda Mwananchi rally.
Linda Mwananchi led by Niarobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Siaya governor James Orengo, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Suba South MP caroli Omondi, Trans-Nzoia governor George Natembeya among other leaders already in Suba South where they are expected to hold rallies in Nyandiwa and Sindo.
