Kanini Kega-led Jubilee faction announces ‘genuine’ NDC
The Jubilee Party faction led by East
Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) Member of Parliament Kanini Kega has
announced a Special National Delegates Convention (SNDC) next month.
The team aligned with President William
Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza Alliance held a meeting on Tuesday where they resolved to
hold the SNDC at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre on July 22.
"The meeting noted and agreed with the
Determination of the Internal Disputes Resolution Committee (IDRC) dated 30th
May, 2023 which declared the meeting held on 22nd May, 2023 at Ngong Racecourse
as null and void. The meeting also noted that the Registrar of Political
Parties (ORPP) wrote a letter dated 29th May, 2023 that is in the public domain
and which confirmed that the said meeting did not follow due process,"
Kega said in a statement.
Kega contended that the delegates meeting
hosted by former President Uhuru Kenyatta on May 22 at the Ngong Racecourse,
was unlawful. As a result, he stated that the Kenyatta allies' leadership
changes during the NDC have no legal ramifications.
"In light of the above, we wish to
inform our members that the purported changes in the leadership of our Party
made at the said meeting are of no legal consequence," he said.
He stated that the party has informed the Speaker of the National Assembly that the Jubilee leadership in the House is unchanged, including the position of deputy Minority Whip held by Nominated Senator Sabina Chege.

This comes after the EALA MP dismissed the
May NDC which resolved to expel him together with other elected and nominated
leaders.
Kega said the convention was illegal as the
internal disputes resolution committee had stayed the special NDC pending the
determination of a dispute challenging the meeting.
Jubilee has been embroiled in leadership wrangles after the Kanini Kega-led faction made leadership changes which saw
Kenyatta ousted as party leader, Chege nominated as
the acting party leader while Kega replaced Kioni as Sec-Gen.
