Jubilee HQ lease terminated after Kanini Kega, Jeremiah Kioni factions clash

The Jubilee party has been ordered to vacate the premises they currently use as party headquarters after factions from East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Kanini Kega and former Ndaragwa MP Jeremiah Kioni clashed over party leadership.

This comes after a group led by MP Kega was spotted throwing rocks and other objects into the building in Kileleshwa on Wednesday after being allegedly refused entry.

MP Kega was joined by Nominated MP Sabina Chege and Eldas MP Adan Keynan, among others.

A subsequent statement from the property's owner ordered the party to leave the premises, claiming that they had violated the lease terms.

"Today as you are aware goons descended on Dikdik Gardens due to your occupation of my premises," wrote E.W Mbote.

"Your tenancy has exposed our neighbours and neighbourhood to unwarranted insecurity."

Kioni and MP Kega are fighting for control of the party, with Kioni reportedly refusing to step down as party Secretary General to make way for MP Kega.

The Jubilee Party's National Executive Council made changes on February 9th, replacing Kioni with Kega. The Registrar of Political Parties approved the changes, but the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal overturned them.

Kioni, along with the party's Vice Chairperson David Murathe and National Treasurer Kagwe Gichohi, had been suspended for their conduct of the political outfit's affairs.

At the NEC meeting, the party decided that MP Kega would replace Kioni, MP Keynan would replace Murathe, and Raychel Nyamai would serve as National Treasurer in an acting capacity.

Kioni, on the other hand, has claimed that the meeting was held without the members following the rules of the law, thereby calling for his suspension to be lifted.

MP Keynan, speaking after the standoff, urged Kioni to resign peacefully and in accordance with the party's constitution.

"We want you to accept that you are the former SG and this party has a constitution and please don't be a nuisance to the neighbours here," he said.

"This is a highly respected party please don't cause mayhem and destruction to the people here."
