Expectant mothers empowered with maternal health insights at Savannah Hospital's educational session

Expectant mothers gathered at Savannah Hospital in Nairobi for an enlightening session aimed at empowering them with essential knowledge on maternal health.

The event, led by renowned Obstetrician and Gynecologist Dr. Wachira Murage, provided practical guidance on pregnancy care, addressing key aspects of maternal well-being and common health challenges during and after pregnancy. A major focus of the session was postpartum bleeding, a critical issue Dr. Murage emphasized as requiring greater attention.

Postpartum bleeding, a common concern for new mothers, poses significant challenges, particularly for women from lower socio-economic backgrounds.

Dr. Murage stressed the importance of effective management of this condition for maternal health, noting that limited access to healthcare services can worsen its severity among disadvantaged groups.

“Postpartum bleeding is a common concern for many new mothers, but with good antenatal care and quality care, we can significantly reduce its impact,” said Dr. Murage. “It is crucial that women receive comprehensive care before, during, and after childbirth to effectively address this issue.”

The session aimed to raise awareness and provide practical solutions to support expectant mothers. Dr. Murage further noted that while postpartum bleeding affects many women, those from lower socio-economic backgrounds are particularly vulnerable due to limited resources and support.

“Providing education and resources about managing postpartum bleeding can make a substantial difference in maternal health outcomes,” he added. “Our goal is to ensure that all women, regardless of their socio-economic status, receive the care they need.”

Attendees, including Maryanne Mbui, expressed their gratitude for the educational opportunity. Maryanne shared that she gained valuable insights into managing postpartum bleeding. “I now have a clear understanding of what to do and what to avoid during pregnancy,” she said, reflecting on the session's positive impact on her approach to maternal care.

By addressing the specific challenges faced by expectant mothers, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, Savannah Hospital continues to play a crucial role in advancing maternal healthcare and supporting the well-being of mothers in the region.
