The biggest Eric Omondi scandals of 2021
Eric Omondi, the self-proclaimed president of
comedy in Africa, has often featured in questionable stunts in recent times,
emerging as a controversial character in the entertainment industry.
Though silly, the high-flying entertainer’s antics and stories have stayed amusing netizens throughout the year.
Eric Omondi currently commands a following of 3.7 million followers on Instagram. He was among those listed by Meta, Instagram’s parent company, as the most followed Kenyan personality of 2021.
Fight for Kenyan music airplay
Lately, Eric has taken on the hat of
‘saviour’ of the Kenyan music industry, advocating for 75% playtime of local
music in all Kenyan media stations and events.
The comedian however seemingly addressed this
the wrong way, leading to his dramatic arrest after he attempted to storm Parliament
buildings in Nairobi.
Furthermore, Omondi termed Kenyan artists as
‘lazy’, and this brought about a lot of back and forth with a number of local
musicians, ironically landing him on the wrong side of those he was advocating
for.
The comedian then trained his guns on Jamaican
superstar Konshens, even proceeding to release a diss track addressed to the
‘Gal a Bubble’ hit maker after he announced a New Year's Eve show in Kenya to
his legion of fans.
The funnyman’s reality show dubbed ‘Wife
Material’ got him on the wrong side of the law after his long battles with
former Kenya Films Classification Board (KFCB) CEO, Ezekiel Mutua, who had
stopped his show from airing.
Eric’s controversial romance-laced act however
eventually premiered its third season featuring wannabe wives from Kenya,
Ethiopia, South Sudan, Nigeria and Rwanda.
South Sudanese fashion model Ayen Monica was
named the winner of Wife Material 3.
Ayen ended her relationship with the comedian
calling him a liar following his never-ending scandals.
The Big Tyme Entertainment C.E.O and founder was
also involved in a fake pregnancy scandal, in which he posted a photo of songstress
Miss P announcing that they were expecting a child.
However, it was later revealed that this was
merely a publicity stunt for the release of Miss P’s first song ‘Baby shower’
under the comedian’s record label.
Eric was called out by his alleged baby mama,
former TV journalist Jacque Maribe, for neglecting his fatherly duties and
failing to provide for their seven-year-old son.
The duo however mended fences following the intervention of Bonfire Adventures boss Simon Kabu after the public spat surrounding the deadbeat allegations got ugly.
Somewhere along his political campaigns and starring on his reality TV show, Eric Omondi emerged claiming that he had bought a Ksh.141 million house in Karen.
He even displayed a title deed he claimed belonged to the land.
He however later confessed that he had not bought the house and it was all showbiz.
