Sifuna says Linda Mwananchi will remain united despite sabotage attempts

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has maintained that the Linda Mwananchi political movement will remain united despite what he described as growing political interference in the country.

Speaking during a rally in Homa Bay on Sunday, Sifuna alleged that efforts had been made to disrupt their meeting by closing roads.

However, he said residents turned up in solidarity and opened the roads, allowing the rally to proceed.

“I want to promise you that even if enemies try to bring propaganda between us, we are not leaving each other,” Sifuna said.

He added that he, Babu Owino, James Orengo, and supporters from the Mulembe and Luo Nyanza communities remain united.

“Me and Babu Owino, together with Honourable James Orengo who is there, and the entire community of Mulembe and the entire community of people here in Luo Nyanza, we are not disagreeing or leaving each other,” he said.

According to Sifuna, the group has visited several parts of the country, from the Coast to the Western region, and he claimed that President William Ruto lacked significant support in the areas they had visited.

Sifuna also linked his disagreements within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to the death of Albert Ojwang, who died while in police custody.

He alleged that Ojwang's arrest and subsequent death represented a breach of an agreement that there would be no further killings under the government.

During the rally, Siaya Governor James Orengo also alleged that Ruto had abused the constitution. According to him, 80 percent of young protesters who died in 2024 were from the Luo community, and that Ruto has continued to kill people from the region.

Speaking in his native language, Orengo questioned late Raila Odinga’s death and challenged the Head of State to reveal what killed the former Prime Minister during his upcoming memorial in Bondo.

Trans Nzoia Governor Natembeya joined the two in accusing the President of trying to sabotage their rally by sending goons to disrupt it.

The governor called on Kenyans who share a commitment to democracy and human rights, and who are conversant with the ideals associated with the late Raila Amollo Odinga, to join their movement.

He urged them to unite behind what he described as a shared political vision and “walk with them” as they pursue their cause.
