Ulinzi recorded a convincing 37-29 victory over Kisiwa in a Kenya Handball Federation Men’s League match played at Nyayo Outdoor Arena on Saturday.

Kisiwa put up a spirited fight and managed to keep the score respectable, especially in attack, but Ulinzi’s superior firepower eventually proved too much in the end.

Kisiwa team manager George Wamalwa was proud of his side’s effort despite the defeat.

"The boys really tried, the game wasn't easy. In fact Ulinzi expected to score a lot more goals but because of the effort my boys put in, the game was tight," Wamalwa said.

"This performance and the training we have done shows that we are ready to compete in this league."

The match was not without controversy, as Kisiwa coach Ipapo Oseng’eri James Dennis was sent off in the first half. The former referee voiced his frustration with the officials’ inconsistency.

"Red card is part of the game. It’s very hard to ref a team that is being coached by a former referee. I know the rules, what is wrong and what is right," Dennis said.

"The reason I was upset is because the referees were not consistent. They punish here but don’t punish there for the same mistakes and this occurred for long. It reached a point they played dangerously and the referee allowed. I was sent off for telling him to be professional and fair."

Ulinzi’s victory strengthens their campaign in the league, while Kisiwa showed promising character and competitiveness despite the loss.
