Two suspected poachers were last night arrested with at least 600Kgs of wildlife meat that is suspected to have been en route from Narosura to Ewaso Nyiro in Narok County.

The suspects believed to be in their mid-thirties were apprehended as they ferried the meat on two motorcycles during their second trip to Ewaso Nyiro, where a white Pick-Up truck was waiting to take the meat to an unknown destination.

Speaking in his office on Sunday (today), Narok Kenya Wildlife Service Deputy Senior Warden Francis Muchiri thanked members of the community for working together with KWS and enabling the authorities to apprehend the gang.

The men were arrested while they loaded meat into the truck, while the driver escaped on foot.

Muchiri said that lab tests were to be done on the meat for clarity, although it was suspected to be of Elands, even as the two men were taken into custody to await arraignment tomorrow.

He warned poachers of dire consequences if found guilty of killing wild animals for consumption.
