A family in Kamandura is in mourning after one twin brother was killed and the other seriously injured in an accident along the Kamandura-Rironi Road, part of the Mau Summit road project.

The two schoolboys were walking home from school when they were knocked down by a road grader. Eyewitnesses claim the machine suffered brake failure before it hit the children.

The younger twin died at the scene, while his brother sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Kikuyu Hospital, where he is receiving treatment.

Area leaders have blamed the contractor for failing to put adequate safety measures in place at the construction site. They are calling for the installation of warning signs, the deployment of traffic marshals, and proper management of both motorists and pedestrians using the road under construction

The body of the deceased was taken to Tigoni Hospital Mortuary as police launched investigations to establish the cause of the accident.
