Tuju says the amount owed to the East African Development Bank (EADB) is far below the value of the property, which has since been auctioned. He argues he has always been willing to pay the debt, but questions the process that led to the takeover, claiming it has been politicised.
On Sunday morning, Tuju and employees held prayers outside the business park after they were blocked from accessing the premises, which he says recently belonged to him. Tuju told Citizen TV he should at least be allowed to remove personal and office items.
“They don’t have court orders and even if they had court orders… at least you should allow me to take my pens, pencils, papers to leave with,” he said.
The premises are now said to be under the ownership of Jackson Chebet of Ultra Eureka Limited. Tuju questioned the acquisition and insisted he wants to settle the debt.
“I want to pay the loan and I have wanted to pay the loan for the longest time,” he said, adding that he borrowed 9 million and later sought to return the money.
Presidential aspirant Eliud Owalo also questioned the police presence at the property, saying commercial disputes should be handled through civil procedures.
“Commercial debts are sorted under the confines of civil procedure law, so what are the police doing here?” Owalo asked.
Tuju said he will not give up on the property. He also questioned why other premises within the business park were locked, claiming there was a stop order against the auctioneers.
