Seven explosive devices uncovered from Nyatike Bridge ahead of Ruto’s Migori visit

Detectives have uncovered and safely removed explosive devices that had been planted along Nyatike Bridge in Migori County, just a day before President William Ruto’s scheduled tour of the area.

According to a police report seen by Citizen Digital, a multi-agency presidential advance security team retrieved seven pieces of gel explosives and a detonating cord measuring about two metres that had been concealed at the edge of the bridge, approximately four kilometres east of Macalder Police Station.

The operation involved officers from the Kenya Police Service, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit and the Bomb Disposal Unit.

Police said the explosives were successfully removed without any casualties.

Investigators noted that the hole in which the devices were planted appeared to have been drilled using a compressor machine, with preliminary findings suggesting the explosives may have been placed at the site several months ago.

The scene was processed, and the explosives collected by the Bomb Disposal Unit from Migori for further forensic analysis.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing to establish the motive behind the planting of the devices.

President Ruto was expected to use the Nyatike Bridge during his tour of the area scheduled for Wednesday.
