Sammy Ngotho has won the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) ticket to contest in the upcoming Ol Kalou parliamentary seat by election set for July 16, 2026, in Nyandarua County.

According to the party leader Rigathi Gachagua, Ngotho won the party primaries with 12,957 votes, lauding the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for conducting a seamless and transparent process.

“I most sincerely thank the great people of Olkalou for coming out in large numbers to vote for the candidate of their choice,” he said on X.

“To the thousands of our party members who came out to vote, we thank you for believing in our party, your party of choice and keeping peace during the entire process.”

Ngotho led with a significant margin as Paul Waiganjo came second with 4,978 votes.

The position fell vacant after David Njuguna Kiaraho passed away on March 29, 2026, while undergoing treatment at the Nairobi Hospital.

IEBC announced that parties intending to present candidates through indirect nominations were directed to submit their names on or before May 15, 2026.

Political parties were to do the same for their candidates before May 4. The campaign period shall commence on May 25 to July 13.

Ngotho will be contesting against Samuel Muchina Nyaga vying under a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket.

UDA said that Muchina garnered 3,221 votes to clinch the ticket in a tightly contested race that attracted 10 aspirants, narrowly defeating George Wambugu Kanuri who received 3,077 votes.
