Legendary
Kenya rugby sevens player, Collins Injera, has expressed confidence and
optimism in the firepower of the current youthful Shujaa squad.
Injera,
known for his prolific try-scoring abilities and significant contributions to
Kenyan rugby, believes that the current team has the talent and potential to
excel in upcoming tournaments.
His
support and encouragement are likely to boost the morale of the squad as they
prepare for their journey back to the HSBC World Sevens Series, after finishing
ninth at the ongoing Paris Olympic Games.
“The
team has got the necessary exposure bearing in mind that they just came from
the Challenger Series. We just qualified for the world series which is a very
good thing, but the Olympics was going to be a different ball game because I
have been there twice and the Olympics is the pinnacle of all competitions,”
said Injera.
Shujaa
will be making a return into the World Seven’s series later this year after
being relegated in May 2023.
Injera
has lauded the Kenya Rugby Union for involving former players as part of the
team management, including Andrew Amonde who is the Shujaa Strength and Conditioning
coach.
“Also seeing that former players like Andrew
Amonde have been brought back to the team to help in its management is a very
good thing. So, in terms of the technical aspects of the squad I think they
have the best bench to help them through this journey.”
