Royal Media shows 'Zora', 'Mother-in-Law' scoop four awards at Women in Film Awards

During the award ceremony, actress Jackie Matubia won in the Best Actress in TV Drama category for her role in Citizen TV’s telenovela "Zora".
Angel Atieno won the Best Actress in the kids category for her role in 'Zora.'
Fiddy Macharia, the director of one of the most popular shows in Kenya, Citizen TV's Mother-in-Law, won in the Best Director (TV Drama) category.
On the other hand, Catherine Wamuyu of Citizen TV also scooped a recognition award for Best Producer (TV Drama).
The theme for this year’s WIFA awards was aimed at celebrating Kenyan women of character, courage and commitment in the filmmaking industry.
“Nevertheless she persisted: Celebrating women of character, courage and commitment,” read the statement.
The awards ceremony, which was birthed in 2020, recognises powerful women in the Kenyan Film Industry and seeks to encourage more women to embrace filmmaking.
“The WIFA awards ceremony aims at bringing women filmmakers together and provides a space where the diversity of women filmmakers in Kenya is equally recognised and celebrated,” read the WIFA statement.
“This exciting initiative not only recognises women filmmakers but also provides a platform to honour outstanding women filmmakers who have contributed to the growth of the film industry by creating and producing films of high quality."
Many more influential women were recognised for their roles in filmmaking including, actress Catherine Kamau.
Catherine Kamau, known as Kate Actress scooped an award for Best Actress in Film for her role in 'Nafsi.'
