The facility, which is accredited by the Social Health Authority (SHA), has begun offering maternity services and has already received its first mothers and newborns.
Located in the densely populated Majengo-Gikomba area, the health centre now provides delivery services, antenatal care and postnatal care, expanding access to maternal healthcare for residents who previously relied on larger referral facilities.
According to Nairobi Governor Sakaja Johnson, the facility also offers a range of other health services, including outpatient consultations, laboratory testing, pharmacy services, tuberculosis screening and treatment, HIV/AIDS comprehensive care, and maternal and child health services.
The opening forms part of ongoing efforts by Nairobi County to strengthen healthcare services at the community level and improve access to essential medical care.
Health workers at the facility said the availability of maternity services within the community is expected to improve access to skilled birth attendance and maternal healthcare.
The launch comes weeks after Pumwani Maternity Hospital received recognition for its performance in reducing maternal deaths and improving maternal health outcomes.
Speaking during the launch, Health and Nutrition CEC Suzanne Silantoi encouraged expectant mothers in Majengo, Gikomba and neighbouring areas to utilise the services available at the facility.
“Every mother deserves access to safe and affordable maternity care near where they live. The opening of these services at Pumwani Majengo Health Centre is another step towards ensuring healthier mothers, healthier babies and a healthier Nairobi,” said Silantoi.
County officials said the facility is fully operational and open to the public.
