President William Ruto has called upon the Pan-African Parliamentarians to urgently review African laws and ensure that African Union agendas are primarily funded by the African continent before it's funded by development partners, in a bid to stop being over-dependent.

President Ruto also castigated the UN Security Council for unfair representation of the African continent over decades.

"Africa, a continent of 1.2 billion people and a GDP of close to $ 2 trillion finds itself disadvantaged by the current UN Security Council configuration. A configuration that was established more than 80 years ago before World War II,” he said.

“It is therefore time to reform the UN Security Council and change it from the exclusive club of five permanent members to a more representative Global Council that works for the interest of the whole world," he emphasized.

Ruto maintained that the African continent is rich with natural resources and the continent only needs to join hands in actualizing and engaging the developed countries in a win-win conversation without falling victims.

In his address to the African Parliamentarians, the Kenyan president further accused development partners of employing blackmail and threats to avoid meaningful engagements on Climate Change engagements.

As such, President Ruto challenged the Pan African Assembly to work at the same level as the European Assemblies as they are not lesser human beings.

"This parliament must provide an accountability structure to ensure the globe is answerable to this continent," he said.

According to him, Africa has all it takes to make Africa a clean green factory in the world since it has all the competitive advantage it takes in the world.

"We must establish policies which make Africa attractive to global opportunities and we can create clean energy access to all people by 2030 but we need to make much more investment collectively by all humanity," he challenged the lawmakers.

President Ruto believes that Africa is the answer to the world’s challenges and does not need to be at a crossroads.

"Africa solutions are no longer restricted to Africa but can also provide global solutions,” he stated.

President Ruto was addressing the 3rd Pan African Parliamentarians Summit on Climate Policy and Equity convened by Pan African Climate Justice in partnership with Pan African Parliamentarians in Midrand, South Africa.

The president issued the address, in his capacity as the chairperson of the committee of African Heads of State and Governments on Climate Change.
