Defending Kenyan Premier League champions Kenya Police FC have reinforced their squad with three new signings as they step up preparations for Saturday’s crucial league clash against KCB.
Police are keen to collect maximum points from the encounter
as they look to push back into the title race.
The law enforcers are currently sixth on the table, just two
points behind joint leaders Kakamega Homeboyz and AFC Leopards, underlining how
tight the competition remains at the top.
The club has signed a Congolese winger and left-back Hernest
Briyock Malonga, Burkina Faso striker Yves Koutiama, who featured for his
country at the African Nations Championship (CHAN) and Congolese central
defender Jacques Bowamba.
Kenya Police FC general secretary Chris Oguso said the club
remains committed to player development and progression.
“Even if you sign a long-term contract with Police FC and a
bigger team comes calling, we are ready to release you so that you can continue
growing your career. We are not a club that holds players back. Our goal is to
develop talent and open bigger doors for them,” Oguso said.
Chairman Nyale Munga explained that the scarcity of quality
strikers locally influenced the decision to recruit from outside the country.
“Good strikers in Africa are hard to find, and many Kenyan
strikers are plying their trade abroad. We have had issues in both attack and
defence, and that is why we decided to strengthen those areas. We are now ready
to compete,” Munga noted.
Head coach Dusan Stojanovic welcomed the additions,
stressing the importance of balance and quality.
“It is always good for a coach to have depth, but more
important is having a quality squad that allows us to manage the team better,”
he said.
Police will be hoping the new signings provide the spark
they need as they chase another title push.
