The incident, which has sparked widespread public outrage on social media, involved James Thuku, a man who moves on crutches.
According to a statement by Senator Crystal Asige, Thuku was arrested and is currently being held at Nakuru Central Police Station on allegations of incitement to violence.
"I have been able to confirm that he was arrested and is being held at Nakuru Central Police Station. His name is James Thuku. Charges: Incitement to Violence," Asige posted on X.
The widely circulated video shows Thuku attempting to cross a street with the assistance of another man after police officers mounted a barricade during the demonstrations.
Moments later, a police Land Cruiser carrying more than 10 armed officers speeds into the scene. The officers, armed with firearms, batons and tear gas launchers, quickly disembark from the vehicle.
The driver immediately rushes towards Thuku, while the other officers follow closely behind. The man assisting Thuku manages to flee, leaving the disabled man alone as officers close in on him.
Unable to move quickly because of his disability, Thuku drops his crutches and falls to the ground while attempting to escape. Officers are then seen dragging him along the road before forcefully tossing him into the waiting police vehicle.
The footage has triggered widespread condemnation, with many Kenyans accusing the police of using excessive force against a vulnerable individual.
Reacting to the incident, Senator Asige questioned the conduct of the officers and called for accountability from the National Police Service.
"This is monstrous! IG Kanja, we need an explanation from the National Police Service," she said.
Social media users also expressed outrage over the arrest.
Why would you do this to someone living with disability?

"Why would you do this to someone living with disability? Polisi si binadamu!" posted X user I am Chege.
Another user questioned the officers' actions, writing: "He was using crutches. Did the policemen stop to see the human being?"
"Even if he was demonstrating, he does not deserve this. #StopPoliceBrutality," another user, identified as Kirk, wrote.
Stephen Martatah also weighed in, saying: "These police should be in front of a judge today!"
The incident has renewed concerns over police conduct during public demonstrations and the treatment of persons with disabilities, with human rights advocates calling for an independent investigation into Thuku's arrest and the use of force by the officers involved.
