Oburu praises progress in Constitution, promises to finish the work Raila began

While celebrating the 16th anniversary of Katiba Day, Oburu acknowledged that Raila's fight for devolution and human rights led to multipartyism and the 2010 Constitution. 

Through this, Oburu noted that the former Prime Minister secured Kenyans' freedom of speech as well as the devolution of resources. 

"His life was the very definition of Kenya's democratic struggle. From the cold cells of detention during the dark days to the frontlines of the multi-party struggle, to the final negotiations that gave us Katiba 2010, Baba remained our anchor," Oburu stated.

He, however, stated that the country remains incomplete without economic liberation. Oburu promised to finish what Raila began by forming the next government through the broad-based framework to bring economic relief to Kenyans. 

"Freedom remains incomplete when our youth face crushing unemployment. It is hollow when our families are ruined by unaffordable healthcare, when our children receive inadequate education, and when poverty still chains millions of marginalised Kenyans."

The ODM party leader called on Kenyans to collectively protect the Constitution, citing that every generation has a historic responsibility to guard judicial independence and launch the economic revolution that will liberate the country. 

"The Constitution belongs to you. Guarding it is a duty we must carry forward together. Let us now finish the work that Baba started, anchoring all our hardwon freedoms through the engine of a Broad-based framework until 2027."
