Former State House Chief of Staff Nzioka
Waita has been appointed the Africa Managing Director at the Tony Blair
Institute for Global Change.
“Nzioka arrives with skills and
capabilities that embody the best of TBI’s value proposition as advisors to
political leaders on strategy, policy and delivery – all enabled by technology,”
the non-profit organisation set up by former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair said.
Commenting on his new role in a social media post, he
wrote: “I will be privileged to work alongside kindred spirits, a team of
like-minded thinkers, doers and trusted advisors who are committed to
supporting political leaders across diverse geographies to execute their
mandates effectively, whilst leveraging the benefits of technology and the
efficient design of their governments for impact and results.”
Before his appointment, Waita recently worked
with the Tony Blair Institute as an independent advisor, the organisation said.
Waita assumed the State House Chief of
Staff post after founding former president Kenyatta’s delivery unit.
He then contested for the Machakos
gubernatorial seat in 2022 but lost to Wavinya Ndeti.
Before entering Kenyan politics and
government, he spent fourteen years at Safaricom, four of which he was the telco’s
head of corporate affairs.
Waita holds a bachelor of laws degree from
the University of Sheffield and a master's degree in IT and telecommunications
law from the Queen Mary University of London.
On its website, the Tony Blair Institute says
it helps governments and leaders turn bold ideas into reality through advising
on strategy, policy and delivery while unlocking the power of technology in
these areas.
