Healthcare services in Nandi County could be disrupted after clinical officers issued a strike notice over unresolved labour issues.

The Kenya Union of Clinical Officers (KUCO), Nandi Chapter, said members will down their tools from July 20, 2027, over the delayed implementation of the 2026 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

Speaking in Kapsabet, union officials accused the county government of failing to honour commitments under the CBA, citing poor medical insurance coverage and an unresolved labour dispute.

"We have engaged the Nandi County Government to address the longstanding human resource issues and resolve the industrial dispute involving clinical officers in the county,” said KUCO Nandi Secretary Joan Kitur.

“Across Nandi County, we have about 147 health facilities, with clinical officers deployed at various levels, from dispensaries to Level Five hospitals. Our clinical officers provide a wide range of services, including anaesthesia, emergency and trauma care, chronic disease management and oncology services.”

She added, “We regret to announce that all these services will come to a standstill from Monday, July 20.”

The officials said they had exhausted all avenues of dialogue and urged the county government to address their grievances before the strike begins.

“These issues have been taken for granted for far too long, and now it is time for us to act because the current county government does not seem to appreciate the importance of negotiations,” stated KUCO Nandi Chairperson Hosea Mosbey.
